| March 30, 2013

smallbizDid you have money problems last year? If someone were to ask me this, I’d answer a big “YES”. With our country’s economy still under heavy pressure, everyone’s forced to look for other alternatives on how to make some extra cash. Others have taken the initiative of starting their own business. The only small problem with such an idea is that you end up going back to looking for a job as soon as you realize that your new found business idea is losing profits.

So what causes businesses to go down the drain more quickly than building it? Research suggests that most people have no idea what kind of business they are getting into. For example, most people who invested in a restaurant business and failed had no idea how the business runs. Before you do  face palm, let me tell you that a lot of business owners who failed made this very fatal mistake! But of course, if this ever happened to you, you shouldn’t feel bad. You just made a terrible business mistake and you should learn from this too! Perhaps in the future, you’ll be a lot wiser in picking which business you want to have for this year!

Speaking of businesses, what are the good small business ideas for this year? These are just a few good business ideas, but one should always remember that a good marketing strategy, hard work and quality customer service should always be enforced within your business if you want to be successful.

Beer Shirts – Yes, you got it right. Beer shirts are the rave nowadays, most especially at this time of the year where its spring break. Show you love for a particular beer brand by printing its logo on your favorite t-shirt. The only thing that you have to do first would be to ask for permission, especially if you are going to borrow the brand name. Or you can contact a company and discuss a partnership. But hey, I bet a lot of people would want to buy a Jack Daniels beer shirt at this time of the year!

Elder Care – You’d be surprised to know how much money people can make while watching old people. Through the recent years, more and more old people dislike living in retirement homes. Therefore, staying at their own home seems to be the most favorable idea for them. But of course, their children would worry about their condition, especially if they are living on their own, so anyone who wishes to take care for an elderly couple within their own home would be much appreciated. For the right price, of course!

Detail Landscaping – If there’s one more type of business that is quickly giving people good profit, it would have to be detailed landscaping. A study in the year 2000 revealed that the growing landscaping industry in Canada was responsible for giving jobs to thousands of jobless Canadians. I am not surprised either, since there are a lot of people I know who wants to make their garden  look  good. And mind you, these people who want their gardens to look really great are filthy rich!

Internet Retailing – When the Internet was invented during the late 90’s, everyone knew that people were going to use it as a medium for personal and business communication. However, this evolved into something bigger; people were now transacting business in the Internet. Thus, Internet retailing became a hit. Websites like Amazon and Ebay made so much money that a lot of people also tried building their own shopping network in the Internet. However, you’d be surprised to learn how difficult it is to build, manage, promote and maintain one!

These are just the top three small business ideas for 2013. Remember to create a good marketing strategy first before jumping on the small business bandwagon. If you’re not too sure about what you are doing, you can always seek help, either in the Internet or from some professional marketing advisor!
