Trending Now in ERP Software Usage
ERP (enterprise resource planning) software, although it is fairly new, is already evolving to meet the demands of industry. The applications allow business to amalgamate everything from sales and marketing to supply chain and resources, and affords them opportunity to interface with other businesses.
Trending now in ERP is the upturn in usage of the “Cloud” technology for storage of data. From 2012 to 2013, Cloud subscriptions increased dramatically; in 2013 revenue from Cloud applications was a whopping $20 billion. Part of the reason for this increased demand upon Cloud technology is that it is flexible and can be accessed easily. For another, the possibility of Cloud storage reduces or eliminates altogether, the need for on-site data storage. That one asset has a huge impact on operational costs.
Another trend industry is seeing is the conversion of small and medium-sized business to Enterprise Resource Planning. The use of ERP software from TGI , for example, allows these businesses the capability to utilize the same technology as industry giants to control all aspects of their production, from warehousing to HR management from one hub. There is a “full house” of products that tailors the system to medical usage, construction, even food and beverage. That advantage allows smaller companies to interface with other businesses and markets, local, national and even international, helping to level the playing field between huge corporate industry and small business.
The third trend in ERP is use of mobile applications to access ERP from smartphones and tablets. Business people are not tethered to a PC, but can make decisions and assess production from the field. The flexibility that gives managers to make on-the-spot decisions is invaluable. Changes and manipulations can be made when the need arises instead of waiting to get back to a desktop when the facts have cooled.
Companies have always needed to keep their data together and yet compartmentalized for easy access. Digitalization made that task easier, less time consuming and more accurate than manually entered data. Now, with Cloud storage and ERP technology, companies have a competitive edge they did not have before.
