Student Finance 101 – Earning Extra Income
The college years can be a tough combination of study hard and work harder. When your course load prevents you from holding down a conventional full-time job, it puts a serious cap on your spending budget. Luckily, there are a number of profitable opportunities out there for college students like you to earn money when you’re not studying. The most-convenient ones let you work right from your dorm room off your laptop computer.
Online Jobs for College Students
Writer
Writing content, essays, forums and blog posts is surprisingly profitable. It may sound too easy, but when you take into consideration that most of these online companies put their applicants through stringent testing before committing to hiring, it makes a little more sense. For the best results and highest-paying online writing opportunities, take advantage of your advanced education and only apply to companies such as UK Essays. Companies like these only accept writers who are working toward advanced college degrees; therefore, they tend to pay better than average.
Online Tutor
This is another profitable area that allows you to pull from your advanced knowledge. Not everyone can be a tutor, but college students tend to excel at it. Becoming an online tutor is not only profitable, it also benefits fellow learners. You can have the peace of mind of knowing that your work means more than just a pay check. It also looks great on a resume.
Gamer
If this sounds like your dream job, don’t get too excited too quickly. While it is possible to earn money by playing games such as slots and poker online, more often than not, these companies pay you in merchandise — things like tee shirts and travel mugs — still cool; consider you won them with your skills — but not something you can take to the local Wal-Mart in exchange for shampoo and yogurt. There are a few places you can game for cash, however. Don’t expect to get rich quick because it can take awhile for your winnings to reach you, but still — it’s free money.
On-Campus Jobs for College Students
If you haven’t all ready scoped out the available work-study positions available on-campus, this would be the time to do so. Typically these jobs pay minimum wage, but they have the added convenience, in most cases, of being within walking distance of the dorms. Almost every university has a wealth of job opportunities available for matriculating students.
Teaching Assistant
If you’re close to getting your degree, a teaching assistant job may be just the ticket. Typically assistants do grunt work like handing out papers or grading tests. There are those times, however, when you might be called on to teach a class or do one-on-one tutoring with a student in the lab — much more interesting than running a cash register downtown.
Media Tech
The media tech is responsible for setting up and tearing down the equipment used in classroom presentations — overheads, monitors, DVD players and more. Usually the tech fetches the equipment from storage, delivers it to the room and sets it up. Sometimes he stays to help operate it. He’s also responsible for tearing the system back down and stowing it safely away. If you’re savvy with electronics, media tech might be the position for you.
Library Aide
This job is pretty self-explanatory. The library aide may help check books and materials in and out. More likely, though, you’ll be re-shelving and cataloguing returned books. Library positions are usually well-sought-after because they’re climate-controlled and relatively stress-free.
There are also your more-traditional jobs located off campus for college students — babysitting, retail and more. These jobs require transportation though, which can be a major issue for students who don’t have access to a vehicle. Needless to say – it isn’t the end of the world if you have no money just now; there are lots of proven and effective ways to earn some quick cash whether it is freelance work or a traditional part time job.
my son works as a public safety steward at sports events and concerts. Gets to see all the big games and gigs and gets paid for being there. He loves it.
An interesting and fun job. Sounds great.
