Rent Your Wedding

| June 9, 2016

wedding cakeWeddings are incredibly expensive, with the average bill coming in at $32,641. If you are planning a wedding, you can cut that bill down significantly if you are willing to rent a few of your wedding necessities.

Note that there are some things that you cannot rent, such as your cake and food, but most things you can.  Read on to learn a few tips and tricks for renting your wedding.

Venue

This one is a no brainer, as everyone rents a wedding venue.  However, you can save a few dollars by willing to use a venue that is a bit more out of the way, or if you have any connections to someone who owns one.

How to Rent Your Whole Wedding – ABC News

Aug 1, 2015  ABC News’ Eliza Murphy and Anna Wild report: Every girl dreams about finding the perfect dress for the perfect day. A dress to have and to …

Many cities also have their own small venues and they give discounts to residents, so see if you or a close friend lives in a city with a quaint venue.

Wedding Dress

While most brides can’t imagine not buying their dress, you really won’t be using it again.  On average, dresses cost $1,000 and up for purchase, but can be as little as $100-$200 to rent.  You can also rent bridesmaids dresses, tuxedos, etc.

Accessories

If you want fancy bling but don’t have the budget to purchase diamond headpieces and necklaces, you can rent them for less than ¼ of the price!  Happily Ever Borrowed is a popular site to rent beautiful cover ups, veils, headpieces, and more.

You can even rent the perfect pair of shoes from sites like Bag Borrow or Steal so that you can have designer shoes at a fraction of the cost.

Tables, Chairs, Linens and other “Event Rentals”

Very few venues come with chair/table/linen rentals, and if they do they are ridiculously overpriced.  However, it will be more expensive to flat out buy these items, and then find a place to store them.

On average, people spend $1,298 – $2,164 renting tables, chairs, linens, etc.  It is possible to cut down this cost by keeping it simple.  Instead of renting fancy china and glassware, find something that is elegant yet inexpensive.  Don’t be afraid to price match, especially on linens.

Decor

The beauty (and pain) of Pinterest is that you can find so many ideas for an adorable wedding, but once you start adding up the tag, you’ll find that Pinterest is your worst nightmare.  Also, if you were to buy all of the cute doors, couches, antiques, etc. you would then have to find a way to store them! Renting decor is easy, you can find nearly anything that you can imagine, from wedding arches, fancy lights, and draped fabric, to columns, chandeliers, and more.

Flowers

You can in fact rent flowers for the big day, though it is hard to do.  On average, people spend $1579 on the bouquet, corsages, boutonnieres, decorative flowers, etc.

Of course you can shave a few dollars by purchasing fake flowers instead of real ones, but you can save even more if you can find a place that will let you rent them.  However, flower rentals are hard to find, so you’re probably better off finding a less expensive centerpiece and using fake flowers.

Entertainment Systems

To get a professional DJ at your wedding, your bill will quickly add up.   Most professionals cost anywhere from $500 to $1,500 a night.  However, you can rent your own equipment and then put a friend or family member in charge of music.

Still missing your “something borrowed”? Give your wallet a break by renting these big day essentials.

Create a playlist before hand for nice gentle music, and write down what songs you want played during your First Dance, Daddy Daughter Dance, Bouquet Toss, etc so that your DIY DJ can play the music at the right time.  It may be a good idea to rent a microphone as well so that you can easily get everyone’s attention.

Wedding Cake

While you can’t exactly rent a wedding cake, you can rent the accessories that go along with it.  You can rent a cake service set, cake toppers, cake stands, etc.  Sometimes, cake companies will include these things as part of the purchase, but you may be able to rent one through your catering company.

Dance Floors

Did you find the perfect venue but it unfortunately doesn’t have a dance floor?  Or you want to have a backyard garden wedding, but you also want to be able to dance?  Fear not, you can rent a dance floor for as little as $1.85 per square foot.

Most venues charge a premium if they have a dance floor included, so you can save a few dollars by finding a cheap venue and bringing your own floor.
