How to Turn your House into a Beautiful Home

| June 8, 2013

house into a beautiful homeModern houses are more or less identical in most aspects. If you want to turn yours into something special, something that truly reflects your personality, then it all comes down to decor. Choosing the right colour schemes, furnishings and fittings can help make your home truly unique.

If you want your home to stand out from the crowd, you need to think long and hard about your decor. With many houses – especially new builds – becoming more and more similar, the way you decorate is often the only way you can truly make your mark.

There’s rarely any shortage of inspiration when it comes to home decoration. With dozens of television programs, specialist magazines and internet sites dedicated to renovating, upgrading or redecorating your property, the only difficulty is choosing which particular style to adopt.

Theme

Perhaps you’ll make a feature of a particular wall by painting it a bold colour, fitting a large mirror or cutting away the plaster to expose the raw brickwork. You might choose to invest in a large traditional suite of matching furniture or adopt a more modern, eclectic mix and match approach.

You could have a consistent theme running through every room with matching carpets and wallpaper, or make each and every room an individual work of art, unlike any other. It doesn’t matter whether you have unlimited funds or a tight budget – the final look will still be your decision.

Although both the high street and the internet are full of places to buy furniture and decorating supplies, one area where you might need to look for a specialist supplier is if you have a home office that you wish to kit out. Although many traditional suppliers also produce desks, bookcases and similar items, these tend to be more expensive and less practical than those offered by firms that specialise in office supplies.

If you want to ensure you have the right mindset the moment you enter your home office, the more it feels like a real workplace, the better. Traditional office furniture tends to come in neutral colours – beige, oak and white being the most popular – which means it can fit in with almost any existing colour scheme.

Inspiration

If you would prefer to have a little more luxury, you can upgrade to executive furniture such as a walnut, double pedestal desk or high-backed leather covered swivel chair. Such items not only add to the comfort and convenience of the user but also lend weight to the room, boosting productivity further still.

If there is furniture at work that you like, take your inspiration there and try to recreate your regular office inside the comfortable surroundings of your own home. If not, work from the ground up to create a workspace that lets you keep all your important files and papers in order so you can always work with the maximum level of efficiency.
