How Staying Organized Can Save you Money
Have you ever noticed that people who are organized are envied? Other people look at them and think to themselves, “If only I were as organized as (insert name here), my life would be so much easier.” This is then followed by the gnashing of teeth and a look of disdain.
Well, here is another reason that you probably didn’t think of when you were being envious of Mr. or Ms. Organized – they are probably making money by being and staying organized. Yes, you are reading correctly; not only do they seem more productive and in control, they are also saving and making by staying organized, as saving money is yet another way of making money.
Following is five ways that staying organized can save you money:
- Time is Money – we have all heard this expression on numerous occasions and that is because it is true. When you stay organized it means that you are not always looking for things because you know where to find them or that it takes you less time to clean as keeping things orderly for a few minutes each day takes less time than taking a few hours once every two weeks. And the fact is that time is money.
- Excess Weight Costs Money – carrying excess weight is not healthy – not for your body and not for your purse. What has this got to do with staying organized? Using your car as a a storage facility on wheels because you are disorganized will cost you in fuel bills and wear and tear on the auto. In these days of expensive fuel and maintenance costs, extra weight in your car costs you every time you travel.
- Late Fees/Cost of Documents – if you receive bills, file them in a specific place; perhaps near a desktop calendar with the date that bills have to be paid circled, then chances are that you will pay the bill on time and not incur late fees. If you receive a bill and throw it on the pile with the rest of your unopened mail, chances are the opposite will occur. Similarly, if your important documents are filed as soon as you get them, you will not have to pay for a new copy when you really need them yet cannot find them.
- Injury is Expensive – staying organized also extends to outside your home such as in the yard. Numerous cases of people injuring themselves by slipping on toys left on the deck, tripping on a garden hose that remains strewn around the garden, or incurring a snake bite due to the garden not being maintained are rather common. Outdoor storage such as plastic deck boxes and plastic sheds are a perfect outdoor storage solution. Similarly, hose reels are an easy solution for your hose, and, well keeping your garden in good order, is a necessity.
- Feng Shui – the ancient Chinese system used to design buildings has numerous elements which will not be discussed here. However, suffice to say, that having an organized and orderly space is conducive to well being and auspicious events. 1.5 billion Chinese can’t be wrong.
