Finding Real Solutions to Help Feed Hungry Children
Helping to Feed Children
Most people in the U.S. don’t realize that many children live in poor households that struggle to get food on the table on a regular basis. An estimated 15 to 17 million children suffer from hunger in the U.S. There is no lack of available food in the U.S., a major food-exporting country. In most households that are food-insecure, the problem is a lack of available money to buy food.
Food Disruptions
Households that live at or around the poverty level often experience temporary emergency situations that require extra money, such as car repairs.
During these periods of time, there is not enough money available for food, so the household reduces food intake temporarily. Children are disproportionately affected by disrupted and insufficient food intake due to their increased need for nutrients to fuel growth.
Will Play for Food
A number of governmental programs, foundations, and charities attempt to support families through food disruptions. The Will Play for Food Foundation is one such organization. Its goal is to end childhood hunger. It funds meals, spreads awareness, and organizes fund-raising events.
Corporate Partners
The Will Play for Food Foundation partners with various corporations to achieve its goals. For example, ACN, a prominent telecommunications and energy corporation, is a Platinum Sponsor of Will Play for Food. Sponsors are essential to support the millions of meals that Will Play for Food serves each year.
Sponsors are also essential to support the fund-raising and awareness-raising entertainment events that are a key part of the Will Play for Food Foundation’s approach to fighting childhood hunger.
Work Has Value
Employees who work for corporations that are active in charities feel their work has extra value because they are giving back to the community. Corporations that value giving back tend to emphasize good working conditions, good leadership within the corporation, and employee empowerment.
Giving Back
Many employees of corporations just try to get by. They show up, go through the motions, and pay the bills. Corporations that have a culture of giving back encourage their employees to do so much more. Good leadership, goal-setting, and encouraging employees to invest in themselves can lead to unbelievable success.
These employees often succeed beyond their wildest dreams, to the point where they don’t have to worry much about paying the bills. Interestingly, employees who success through corporations that have a culture of “giving back” are usually just as inspired by the idea of being successful enough to be able to donate to and support charitable foundations as they are by the idea of having sufficient money to not worry about the bills.
Giving back has a way of inspiring additional giving.
