Essential Factors to Consider When Choosing a Banner Design

bannerWhether you are planning to use a banner to promote a product launch or event or to let consumers know about your products and offerings, it is vitally important to take several different factors into consideration.

Most of us would probably make the fatal mistake of loading our banners with as many colours and images as possible. This is an absolute no-no. You wouldn’t want to end up confusing your viewers and ultimately failing to catch their attention in the end, would you? So in this regard, there is one simple rule to follow when it comes to designing a banner: Make it short, sweet, and simple. More often than not, a singular piece of information or idea works best.

Before you choose an image

Images are an integral part of any banner design and should not be left till last when creating the design. But before you choose the first image that you see or choose a whole variety of images that have no significant bearing on your message, consider some pointers. Think of what kind of message you would like to impart to your viewers.

How would you like them to feel? If you have a restaurant in London, for instance, you may perhaps want them to feel hungry after seeing your banner. The images you choose should call upon a specific emotion or train of thought, so choose them wisely. The point is to make viewers see something in your banner that will drive them to take action. A banner should have instant ‘oomph’ to your intended audience.

Colours and contrast

Whilst it is tempting to use as many colours as possible, there is only one word which should point you in the right direction; that word is don’t. The key to choosing colours is to opt for vibrant colours which greatly contrast with each other. The colour of the text should not be difficult to read. If you are planning to have a bright background, then choose neutral or light-coloured text, and vice versa. This way, you will not strain the viewers’ eyes and prevent them from reading what you have to say. Keep this in mind as well: You do not need to have a wide range of colours, as long as you can choose several key colours which blend well together and are the right combinations.

Banner size

The size of your banner needs to be based on the space which you have allotted for it. The dimensions of the banner need to be just right; not too big or too small. You can seek help and recommendations from experts for banner printing in London, especially with regard to the layout of your banner and the size and resolution of the images. They should be able to give you valuable advice on the best layout and images to use depending on your banner’s size.

Pay attention to logos and text

If you have a logo, make sure that it is prominently displayed on your banner. This will allow viewers to easily recognise your brand the next time they see it. This being said, your logo needs to be well-designed in all respects. When it comes to text, make sure that it can be easily read from a certain distance as well.

It is important for you to remember that a banner is significantly larger than other print advertisements such as flyers or brochures. Therefore, it is best to choose the best image resolution for your banner, in so much that it appears beautiful viewed equally from a distance as well as up-close inspection, and professionally done.

Great tips that people should keep in mind! We often get people send us artwork that haven’t really paid attention to any of these aspects, so we will send them here! Thanks 🙂
