Burning Off the Extra Pounds with Boot Camp
Boot camps are all the rage these days, though certainly not without good reason. Boot camps are an excellent way for women to get in shape in the company of other women – men also join boot camps but we’ll focus on women’s fitness in this article – which for many women makes exercising more appealing, plus there are plenty of short and long term benefits associated with boot camps, including:
They’re educational – Learn the ropes
Because they’re not reliant upon shiny new exercise machines, women who attend boot camps learn a wide array of exercises they can do at home, in the park, in fact, practically anywhere.
They’re diverse – Keep interested
Boring boot camps most certainly are not, so they therefore keep women interested and help to avoid the drudgery of running on a treadmill or cycling on an exercise bike.
They’re effective – Burn calories and build muscle
Boot camps focus upon full body workouts and combine cardiovascular exercise with strength training to burn loads of calories. For women who want to get in shape fast and learn how to stay in shape, boot camps are certainly something to consider.
They’re scalable – Suitable for all
Unlike many fitness classes, boot camps are scalable to one’s own capabilities and experience. This means that even though you might be the least in shape at the camp you join you can still participate just as much as the others do.
Boot camps – How they help women burn those extra pounds
Boot camps help women to burn loads of calories in a number of ways, including their focus on full body exercises – easily one of the best ways to burn calories and burn them fast – as well as by combining cardiovascular exercises with strength training.
Full body exercises and combining cardio with strength training – Benefits galore
The three main benefits to full body exercises and combining cardiovascular exercises with strength training are a) burning loads of calories, b) building muscle, and c) increasing cardiovascular fitness. Although there are only three benefits listed, don’t think for a second they won’t suffice for where exercise is concerned these are the benefits you should be aiming for.
Focusing on one part of the body burns fewer calories than exercising the whole body – that’s a well-known fact. Therefore, engaging in full body exercises at a local boot camp will burn far more calories than sitting on an exercise bike where you only use your lower body.
Although most women aren’t interested in gaining noticeable muscle mass it’s important to note that muscle is essential for good body tone, plus muscle mass helps to burn calories at a faster rate – even whilst resting.
Improving your cardiovascular fitness is beneficial in so many ways it’s impossible to list them all here, from feeling more energetic to improving the your heart’s health and lowering cholesterol levels – if you want health benefits you’ll get plenty from cardio.
Should you consider joining a camp?
Yes, you most certainly should considering a camp, either one locally or one that runs for a week or so in some exotic part of the world. There are, however, a few considerations to take into account before signing up, most notably your current fitness level.
Whilst boot camps are scalable, which means everyone can participate, if you’re really out of shape, new to exercise, middle aged or older and haven’t engaged in physical activity for some time, then you might need to consult your doctor beforehand, or at least start off with some mild exercise, like a short walk every day, until you feel comfortable joining your first camp.
