A Workplace Pension Scheme Will Help You Avoid Eating Cat Food in Retirement
You have heard all the spiel about how important it is to save for your retirement. Your loved ones will not be burdened when it comes time for you to stop working. You will not have to work part time to make ends meet. Everyone has heard the cat food stories. These are all great reasons to save, save, save – whether you make your own arrangements for a pension or whether you take advantage of your workplace pension scheme (if you have one).
There are a few other reasons that you may not have thought of that while they may not belong on the top of the list, are very important to consider. Here are just a few of them and we bet you can think a few more.
- Forget the TV hype images
- Where the heck is Gran and Gramps
- Bringing Back the Holiday Holidaze
Toss the norm out the retirement window
If you are stuck with that image of an old man sitting in a fishing boat with that silly hat, the morning fog beginning to lift as a retired gentleman sits alone fishing… drop it. If you have that picture of the elderly woman with the even more ridiculous wide-brimmed hat digging in the dirt of her garden with canning jars on the table in the background… chuck it out the window. Retirement does not mean dead. Picture yourself in the singles bars (If you are alone) boogying the night away while you are on the prowl. Imagine standing on the prow of an ocean liner. If you can see yourself flying down the road on a new Harley without a helmet, hair flying, headphones blasting, and friends riding beside you… you are on the right track.
Everyone Can Spell RV
If you have not at least considered buying or upgrading the motor home and saying goodbye to your hometown… you are not human. When you retire, you may just want to get lost and the heck with everyone else. That is what Skype is for. The problem is if you want to travel the world you are going to need a ton of cash. Hitting the open road in an RV pulling two Harleys in the back is well worth pinching every penny that lands in your pocket for the last 50 years. Why do retirement half-assed when you can have all the comforts of home and take it with you wherever you feel like going?
The Holidaze are Really Here Again
If you are not into travel and never liked the singles bars scene that is cool. The holidays might be the way to go with your retirement nest egg. Most of us have a favourite holiday and all of us longed for the kind of holiday they depict on television. You can now make those dreams come true by blasting away the holidays in style. Can you imagine how great your Halloween House will look if you have retirement time and a bank account filled with money to burn? Can you see your grandchildren’s faces when they would rather be at your house on Christmas morning than at home? Saving for retirement does not have to be about fishing and gardening unless that is what you really want. If it is, do it in style and SAVE, SAVE, SAVE.
Seriously, if you want to spend a comfortable retirement, following your dreams or just doing all the things you’ve never had enough time to do; it takes money to enjoy yourself. With recent changes in UK pension regulations, we’re hearing quite a bit in the news about automatic enrolment. This means that all employers in the UK are required to automatically enroll certain workers into a pension scheme and contribute towards it. If you need to check if you will be automatically enrolled, the UK government has a tool you can use to find out here. If you want to say No to eating cat food in your later years, take the first steps now and secure a comfortable (and fun) future for yourself.
