As a soft drink, Coca-Cola has been around for over 120 years. In that time it has thrived, fallen, returned to grace, been near bankruptcy, and has become the staple of carbonated beverages for the entire world.
However, this American soda pop can be used for a lot more than drinking. Indeed, when you hear about some of the other things it can do, you may not be so inclined to let it into your body. Here’s some of the incredible things that you can do with Coca-Cola!
1. Clean out pipes
Over time, you can expect to see extreme amounts of buildup on the pipes in your plumbing. The contents of these buildup is just general gunk, bacteria, and anything that you’ve flushed down the toilet or washed down the sink in the past 8 months.
Leaving this buildup can cause major problems over time, such as water overflow, backed up sinks, or even a broken pipe. While there are industrial pipe cleaners that you can pour down the drain to burn away the sludge, you can also try a can of Coca-Cola, which has acidic properties that will yield a similar effect.

2. Remove rust
Buildup of rust on metal is a result of the chemical reaction that happens when iron (actually found in most metals) reacts to the oxygen in water. This can cause the metal to weaken, or metal mechanical parts to not work as intended. However, there is a cool chemical reaction that breaks down rust from metal when it comes into contact with phosphoric acids, such as the kind found in can of Coke.
Next time you are polishing some old metal, or if you have a rusted bolt that is completely stuck, try pouring some Coca-Cola to break down the rust so you can scrub it away.

The carbonic acid in Coke means that it is able to clean out some of the more difficult stains that can be found on your clothing, such as blood and grease stains. Blood stains, in particular, are easily dissolved by the carbonic acid in a way that other laundry detergents simply don’t do.
