Stay At Home Mums

It takes a lot of trial and error to get used to working from home. You might need to try a few things out before finding your groove.

But when you do find your groove, you can finally enjoy the fruits of your labor as you learn that working from home…really works!

But just because things are going good, doesn’t mean that things can’t be going better.

In fact, there are some things all stay at home mums should be doing to maximize work output.

You might be efficient, but wouldn’t it be nice to be even more efficient? Well, I’m happy to say that it’s possible!

Check out these top 10 things that can help increase work output for stay at home mums.

1. Create a schedule for work

This may go without saying, but you have no idea how beneficial it can be to actually make a work schedule.

Even if you know you are working from 9-5, you should still make an effort to jot it down somewhere.

You need to put aside dedicated time to concentrate and actually complete work – which hours work best for you?

2. Allow yourself a few breaks

You might be dedicated to a hyperfocused work schedule, which is great!

But you can’t forget to take a break, especially when you’re a work-from-home mum.

Not to mention, there’s lots of research showing that taking breaks in between bursts of productivity can actually help you get more work done.

3. Start a morning routine

What did you do every morning before going to work? There’s no reason you can’t practice that same routine just because you’re working from home.

Give yourself time to wake up, brew a strong cup of coffee, and read the morning news before starting work.

4. Get out of the house every once in a while

Even though many facilities and restaurants are closed during COVID-19, there are still plenty of reasons to get out of the house.

Now that your home is also your workspace, it’s doubly important to get out and go for a short walk during the day.

Get some fresh air and clear your head.

5. Have an “uptime” and a “downtime”

Some tasks require all of your energy and focus. Others are more mundane. Use your downtime for the smaller tasks which can include answering emails, scheduling appointments, or attending meetings.

6. Always ask for help if you need it

Working from home is a big adjustment for many people, and it can take some time before you are comfortable being efficient all on your own.

It’s okay to ask for help when you need it, especially if you are learning as you go along.

Relying on others is the best way to learn how to be productive working from home

7. Use a separate phone number for work calls

It might help reduce the chaos and separate some of the craziness from your cluttered day by dedicating a separate phone number for work.

If you are going to be on conference calls, or you use your phone to coordinate communication between team members, it might be useful to set up another phone.

8. Continue attending meetings

Your workplace may still hold just as many meetings as it did when you were still meeting up in the office.

Although meetings are now virtual, it’s just as important to show up on time and to be heard. In fact, since you’re at home, there’s no excuse to not show up!

9. Don’t be afraid to communicate

Communication is key in every relationship, and it is no less true when it comes to virtual working relationships.

It’s integral for coworkers to keep each other up to speed and to communicate often so everyone is sure to stay on top of the same tasks.

Don’t be afraid to repeat information too just to make sure everyone is very clear on the current work situation.

10. Keep encouraging yourself!

There will be times where you feel like working from home is too much to handle, or there’s something about it that just isn’t working out.

It might take some trial and error, but you will get the hang of this new virtual routine.

Don’t be too hard on yourself and remember that you aren’t alone.
